Learning From The Best

As a young man, he worked for Master Lighting Designer Fred Baker. Fred Baker was lighting artist who created distinctive light fixtures and chandeliers for many of Portland’s landmark buildings. Such buildings include the Pittock Mansion, the Lloyd Frank Home (now the administration building at Lewis and Clark College), Temple Beth Israel, Timberline Lodge, the Portland Masonic Temple, the old First National Bank Building, and the Oregon State Capitol building. Scott Sidwell learned from the best, and when Fred Baker closed is studio down, Scott ended up with many of the old tools. Scott uses these vintage tools in his current work today.

Talent In Design

Scott can both design and fabricate complicated light fixtures. He has been commissioned to work for restaurants as well as residential projects. For those who want unique and beautiful hand crafted fixtures, Scott is an indispensable resource. If there are existing fixtures, but more are needed Scott can fabricate new fixtures to match.

Scott specializes in the repair and restoration of all manner of unique metal objects, including things other than light fixtures. Scott can repair metal objects made of metals that are difficult to work with, such as pot metals, cast iron, and tin. It is very rare to find a craftsman who will take on small repair projects made of metals that are difficult to work with. But Scott will take such projects and make them whole and beautiful again.
