Piece of the Wind by master wood carver Steve R. Pancoast is a wood carving/sculpting shop dedicated to the restoration/preservation of old or historic architectural and decorative items that are in some fashion related to the art of Old World wood carving, and in creating new works starting with original designs that reflect not only the needs and dreams of the individual client, but their personal uniqueness as well.

About Steve R. Pancoast

Essentially self-taught, through the mentorships of Old World Craftsman of several disciplines (including wood carving), Steve's foundation is European Classic, but diversity includes international motifs. Many of those "mentors" were the very craftsman of the distant past whose work now calls for restoration or reproduction in the precise style and means in which they were originally created.

Carving since 1978, Steve worked for ten years in a commercial shop that produced decorative furnishings and items for motels and restaurants in not only wood, but metal, art glass, fabric and specialty treatments; all in multi-motifs thereby adding to his already diverse background of construction and a science degree. In 1989 Piece of the Wind was created as an independent business answering the needs of both commercial and private clients in the areas of wood carving/sculpting, preservation and restoration, reproductions and casting patterns ... new and specialty work.

Most of all, Steve brings you a labor of love, a love for problem solving, a love for quality, a love for uniqueness and a love to deliver not only exactly what his clients expect, but just a bit more. His passion is giving his clients their own "piece of the wind."

What People Are Saying

"I tend to be expansive in my superlatives, but my goodness - these are absolutely fantastic!”

He fabricates and carves architectural ornamentation and doors, fireplace mantels, cabinets, furniture and pool tables and is a master of traditional European, Timberline, French Country and various Oriental styles. Pancoast spends numerous hours studying the architecture and decorations of a home before he begins his work, and he conducts lengthy interviews with his clients to determine the motifs & styles he will incorporate into their project.”

“Steve is one of the most passionate human beings I have ever met. He's an artist in the true form. His passion extends far beyond his ability to carve. His ability to transfer your dreams into reality are unbelievable.”
